Why We Ride: Tom Neumann

Friday, May 10th, 2013

TNeumann_7941_cropsm“I am riding for my 4th year and volunteering on the Steering Committee for my 3rd year. I come back every year because I believe in their mission. It’s an amazing group, and I’ve seen first-hand the impact our efforts have on the affected families, school children, and the Center.

The most touching experience for me was meeting the Spierer family last year. They had lost their daughter less than a year before, and it was the first time I met a family that close to an abduction. Their strength and appreciation was amazing. We thanked them for giving us a deeper understanding of what a family goes through, and they could not express just how thankful they were for all the support from us, and for the hope that all our efforts could bring their child home and prevent another family from having to go through the same experience.”

Throughout the year First Source contributes our time and financial resources to many worthy causes. This season we make a special appeal for the Ride For Missing Children-CNY, an annual 90+/- mile bicycle journey to raise funds and awareness for the plight of missing and exploited children. We are proud to be the Corporate Luminary Sponsor again, and equally proud that we have 8 Riders and 5 volunteers from Team First Source among the hundreds that will ride and volunteer this year. Learn more about the Ride, other riders and how we help to bring missing children home here.

Big Bank Fees

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

Tom Neumann, our Executive VP/COO, talks about the First Source approach to fees, especially in response to recent legislation requiring financial institutions to take on the extra cost of debit card fees. In response to the new law, many big banks added fees to their cards, some added monthly fees, and others changed their requirements to get “free” cards and services. We continue to give you free (no-fee) debit cards. We avoid fees when possible, and when we can’t, we keep them low. Simple. Remember, at First Source, “free” means…”free”.

What a Ride: Tom Neumann, EVP, COO reflects on The Ride For Missing Children

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Describe Your ride experience in one word:
INSPIRATION – The pre-ride meetings included inspiring stories about how families and children dealt with both positive and negative outcomes of missing or exploited children – encouraging me to learn more of how to help or deal with these situations as we emotionally prepared for the ride. The practice rides inspired me to keep training and help other riders as the RFMC training team was ALWAYS there for us – helping us physically prepare for the ride.

What did you take away from Friday’s ride?
I took away a much greater understanding and awareness of the tremendous commitment of all the volunteers, riders, affected families and children to “make our children safer”. It truly was much more than just a bicycle ride.

What missing child did you ride for and do you know their story?
I did not know a specific story. I took the opportunity to meet with one of the affected and recovered children (now an adult) at the closing ceremony – and to thank her for riding and sharing her story with us.

What was your favorite part of the day?
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the day – my favorite part was riding through all the schools, spending time with the kids, and seeing the impact of the efforts to connect with and educate the elementary school children – every time we connect with them, they learn something more about the mission of making them safer.

Do you plan on riding next year and would you recommend the ride to others?
I definitely plan on riding next year and would recommend the experience to others willing to make the commitment to fully participate in all the pre-ride sessions and training – if you fully participate, you will learn so much about the NCMEC mission – and have great experiences with affected families, children, volunteers and riders that will have a lasting positive impact on your life.
