Describe Your Ride experience in one word:
What did you take away from Friday’s ride?
The impact that we have on the children at all of the schools, the parents of the missing children and the community…the response was just phenomenal. I pray this growing awareness will help save children’s lives in the future!
What missing child did you ride for and do you know their story?
Vinyette Teague – She was abducted when she was only 18 months old on June 25, 1983. She was last seen playing in the hallway outside of her parents apartment in Chicago Illinois. Every year her family marks the occasion at the Washington Park by releasing red and white balloons (her favorite colors) into the sky. Vinyette’s mother still dreads Thanksgiving as that is the week of Vinyette’s birthday.
What was your favorite part of the day?
There were 63 parents of missing children riding along the route with us and I got to meet Vinyette’s mother, Kathy (the little girl I was riding for). I was fortunate enough to bump into her on a rest stop and got to talk to her for a brief moment. She saw my pin and started tearing up. I gave her a big hug and thanked her for being there!
Do you plan on riding next year and would you recommend the ride to others?
I would most definitely do it again and again! I would encourage anyone that wants to do it…to DO IT! We will all be happy to give advise and encouragement.
